

Bracknell Chess Club for Family & Children
Purpose:
Bracknell Chess Club for Family and Children will provide an experience of playing chess for families and children that is fun, educational and competitive.
Objectives:

To create a safe, warm and welcoming chess club for family and children members of any playing ability.

To provide training that teaches the moves and rules of the game and/or improves the chess playing ability of family and children members.

To organise competition and other activities within the club that help develop the chess skills of family and children members.

To organise local tournaments and matches against other clubs.
Venue and Time:
The club will meet at the Hanworth Community Centre (RG12 7WX) on Thursday 6.15 pm – 7.15 pm from September 19th 2024 until June 5th 2025 (with possible further dates added towards the end of the season) on the following dates:
September 2024: 19th & 26th
October 2024: 3rd, 10th & 17th
November 2024: 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th
December 2024: 5th & 12th
January 2025: 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th
February 2025: 6th, 13th & 27th
March 2025: 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th
April 2025: 3rd & 24th
May 2025: 1st, 8th. 15th, 22nd & 29th
June 2025: 5th

Fee:
The fee for families and children will be £20 per family. A family is any persons from the same household. A junior is any person under the age of 18 years. All juniors must be accompanied by a known adult at the club. The joining fee must be paid before or after a first visit to the club. All adults attending the club must notify the club that they have read the safeguarding policy statement below and will abide by the instructions given therein.

Training:
Training will be delivered by ECF approved coach Jon Lloyd (currently lead for chess at Gordon’s School and chess tutor at St Margaret Clitherow School and Oaklands School) and CSC approved coach Liam Ball (currently tutoring chess at three local schools). Both Jon and Liam hold enhanced DBS certificates and relevant safeguarding qualifications.

A beginners’ course will take place from October 3rd 2024 to December 5th 2024 (excluding half-term) at a cost of £15 per family. Training will be given for ‘improvers’ throughout the chess year. It is the intention of the trainers to develop chess skills to a level that that brings greater understanding of the game of chess and encourages / improves chess playing ability to tournament standard.

A second family and children's chess course will take place 6.15 - 7.15 pm every Thursday from January 30th 2025 to March 27th 2025 (excluding 20th February 2025) at the Hanworth Community Centre. Tournaments/ Competitions:
Regular tournaments and competitions will be held between 6.15 pm and 7.15 pm at Hanworth Community Centre. Matches will be arranged with other local clubs, where possible. 3 remaining open tournaments will be held at Gordon’s School for year 6 and above juniors. Tournaments for year 6 and below will take place at Bracknell Chess Club. Gordon’s School Tournaments are free to enter. The Bracknell Chess Club tournaments cost £6 to enter, with a medal given to each entrant and a trophy to the winner.

The Gordons School Tournaments (year 6 and above) are being held in the Band Room see Gordon's School - Virtual Tour – 1.30 pm on the following dates:

The Bracknell Chess Club Tournaments (year 6 and below) are being held at Hanworth Community Centre 10 am – 1 pm on the following dates:
